Students who want to apply for credit transfer are required to apply online and submit a transcript of their previous studies to the office of their major department/graduate institute/degree program by the application deadline.(The application period is usually in August as specified in NTU Academic Calendar. )
The result for credit transfer will be available after mid-Sept for master and doctoral students.
Reminders for Master’s and Doctoral Degree Students Applying for Credit Transfer:
Credit transfer online application shall be made according to the dates stipulated in the academic calendar.
Student applicants shall present the transcript prior to admission to the home department (graduate institute or degree program).
Credits for a professional course (except for a second foreign language course) taken and passed more than 10 years prior to admission shall be ineligible for transfer. However, this limitation does not apply to students with justifiable cause and the special approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
If eligible, students may apply for credit transfer for required and elective courses, the passing grade for which shall be B– (or a score of 70 on the 100-point scale). Individual departments (graduate institutes or degree programs) may set a higher passing grade, which shall prevail.
According to Articles 78 through 78-2 in the University's Academic Regulations, unless with the special signed approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs or stipulated otherwise, the total number of credits to be transferred may not exceed 50% of the number of graduation credits required by each department (graduate institute or degree program).
Unless otherwise otherwise stipulated, master's and doctoral degree students shall not apply for credit transfer for courses they take at the University regardless of a passing grade.
Credits for a graduate-level course provided by another university or a foreign university recognized by the Ministry of Education shall be eligible for transfer when students present a "Certificate of Graduate-Level Study" to prove the graduate-level course is indeed provided by the academic institute (NTU graduates or those applying for transfer for a second foreign language course do not apply to this provision).
Credits for a course provided by the Academia Sinica shall be eligible for transfer with the approval of the home department (graduate institute or degree program) after review.
Credits for a graduate-level course provided by a post-secondary program of another university shall be eligible for transfer when students pass the test by the home department (graduate institute or degree program).
In the event that students earn only half of the credits for a year-long course, the credits shall be eligible for transfer only with the consent of the home department (graduate institute or degree program).
The transcript of a junior college shall be ineligible for credit transfer.
Master's degree students directly advancing to the University's doctoral program (i.e., Student ID initial changing from R to F, or P to Q) are not required to apply for credit transfer.
