Enrollment Leave of Absence/Withdrawing From School/Re-Enrollment

    1. Applications for a leave of absence must be submitted prior to the final examinations.
    2. Fall Semester: from August 1; Spring Semester: from February 1
  5. Note:
    1. Students are not allowed to apply for a leave of absence for the next semester.
    2. Students may authorize a third party to complete required procedures.
    3. Students are exempt from paying tuition and fees if their request for a leave of absence is completed one day before the course starting date. Payment for tuition and fees should be completed after the course starting date, and refunds will be made in proportion scheduled on the NTU Academic Calendar in accordance with the refund policy.
    4. Freshman may apply for a leave of absence after registration. Should the application be filed prior to the date of commencement, payment for tuition and fees are not necessary, but student ID card will not be issued if payment is not complete.
    5. Leave of absence may be requested for one semester, one academic year, or two academic years. If extension is required due to severe illness or special circumstances, a maximum extension of two academic years may be approved by the department chair and the academic affairs division. Should other special factors be reported to and approved by the vice president for academic affairs, an additional extension of two academic years may be granted.
    6. When admitted by and attending a graduate program or institute in accordance with Standards for Recognition of Equivalent Educational Levels for University Admission, students of any department that sets a cap of six years or more (including internship) on study may file an application with their original departments for a two-academic-year leave of absence during their attendance of the graduate program or institute provided that they have completed four years of study and have accumulated 128 credits required by their original departments. If admitted by and attending a PhD program, students may apply for an additional extension of four academic years. The aforesaid periods of absence will be excluded from the given duration of a leave of absence set by original departments.
